I just read it, and it sounds as if she must have tightened things up quite a bit. I noticed a tendency in the second half of the book for characters to suddenly start going into reveries about past events in a way that was almost distracting, but it didn't last for long. She also threw a couple of things in (again in the second half) that I wasn't sure belonged there. (I'm also not sure if it was exactly the second half of the book, but I noticed these things later, rather than sooner.) I read it pretty quickly. It was interesting, but I don't know that I was blown away by it.--Lori

I can't really say why, but I stayed up late to finish THE SILVER WOLF so it gets a thumbs up from me. But the conclusion to the romance didn't satisfy me. I was left with a strong desire to know what would happen next. Maybe she'll do a sequel.--Preeti

Just read this one; I liked it, but I didn't love it. I think Borchardt was overly ambitious in the story; she throws in a lot of stuff without fleshing it out. She has a number of storylines, subplots, whatever, that could be interesting, but didn't explore them in depth. I would've preferred to have it be a little less busy, with more detail and/or explanation of some of what went on. There are some really vivid scenes and characters, but I felt a bit cheated by the romance. What was there was good (very good) but not very much of it, and the rest of the story wasn't compelling enough to make up for it.

Oh, and Preeti, aren't you the one who didn't like it when the hero was much older than the heroine? I think I would've preferred the heroine to be a bit older if you're going to have a hero as old as this one.

This is another one that I feel I need a third category, since I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't NOT recommend it either. I'm not sorry I read it, but I have no strong desire to read any more books by the same author.--JW (07 Aug 99)

I read a few chapters of NIGHT OF THE WOLF, the next book in the Legends of the Wolves, but it just didn't interest me and I know there was no HEA so I gave up on it and returned it to the library.--Linda (14 Nov 99)
