Touch the Dark, Claimed by Shadows, & Embrace the Night.  Excerpts available at author's website:  http://www.karenchance.com/author.html.  Feisty, smart-mouthed heroine, amusing scenes, unexpected twists, alpha love interests:  these books have them all.  First part of first book sets the stage (a little slowly but then the pace steps up).  I highly recommend this series.
