Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters
Aug 16th, 2002, 4:12pm

I just read Tapestry with Kurland, Moning, Kenyon and Hunter. It's a great anthology, but only two of the stories deal with fantasy elements. Kenyon's and Monings. I've loved Monings books since the beginning and Kenyon's introduces her Were-Hunter books. Dragonswan was great. I love the way she's developed this world and can't wait to get my hands on her Dark Hunter vampire series. If you haven't been to the websites, they are so worth visiting. http://hunterlegends.com  I can't remember the last time I was this anxious for a series to start. I just wish her publisher would go ahead and release them. The stress is killing me.

Oh, I'm so jealous!!!!   I'm waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail.  It sounds sooo good!!!  I hate waiting. Angry

I've also loved the Moning books I've read.  Her first one was good but the others were total keepers.  Probably would have loved the first one a lot more if I hadn't read it last.

But I too was up at Kenyon's website and read about this were-hunter series.  I actually downloaded her free dark-hunter screensaver, just to torture myself. Wink

I'm really glad to hear this was good.  I really haven't read a lot of her older books but a few I did read were just ok reads to me.  But I did enjoy her last book...Fantasy Lover.   I almost get scared when I read about a series so early and have to wait so long.   She promotes it so well at her site, it has built up in my mind and I'm half afraid I'll be expecting too much!!

The stress is killing me too!!! Grin

I'm looking forward to the other 2 stories too.  I've enjoyed all of Madeline Hunter's medievals...her next books are going to start a regency series which bums me a little.  Not enough medieval writers out there.   Also, the Kurland story sounded interesting.  This anthology may be a first.   One, in which I really enjoy every
story in it.!!   I can live with that.   Smiley

Well, I finally had my chance to read the Tapestry anthology and can honestly say that its the first anthology I've read where I enjoyed all the stories.  And I wasn't disappointed in Sherrilyn Kenyon's story.  She definitely writes a VERY sensual story, with a VERY luscious hero. Wink  And I do like the bonding between mates plot, as found in this, Feehan and possibly an Amanda Glass bk.   And than to read Moning's after.  Shes well known for heros that make you weak in the knees.   Kiss  And the heroine was a writer, so had a few cute add ins from that.  Though the ending might have stretched it in that I don't think many people could actually read back than.  But it was a cute idea.   Excellent plot though. I love how she seduced him.  Grin  The other non paranormal reads by Madeline Hunter and Lynn Kurland were very good medievals too!!   Grin

Well, I finally got to read one.  Just finished reading NIGHT PLEASURES and enjoyed it a lot.   If you like Fantasy Lover and her Dark Hunter short story in Tapestry, you should like this too.   You heard about Kyrian in FL and the heroine is actually friends of the main characters from that book.  This has a similar feel to it as the short story but I enjoyed it a lot.  The heroine Amanda, actually has powers she's suppressed for years because she wants to be normal.  Her whole family seem to have magical talents and her twin sister has become a vampire hunter.  This book gets more intense as the Daimon that Kyrian is hunting has been known to have killed several Hunters and seems to be able to use some weapons that only a God should have.  Very highly sensual as her previous ones.  Also got a peek at her next book that I looked forward to even more.  Grin  Feehan does that to me all the time too!!  I especially like that the h/h are different in character than this book.

I have to agree with Linda (since we both like paranormal romances we seem to read a lot of the same books  Wink ).  I really enjoyed Night Pleasures.  I am still not up to reading swiftly (a weird inner ear thing), but this is really fun bath tub reading.  I mean that in the best possible way because I am really fond of engaging books with fun characters that don't have to be taken really seriously and allow me to just relax at the end of the day.  The fact that the greek gods and goddesses pop in and out and the constant repitition of the Dark Hunter history can get a little intrusive, but for the most part I really enjoyed the book.  I am very curious to follow the adventures of her other hunters and look forward to other books in the series.

I just read Night Embrace -- I had the oppportunity to meet Sherrilyn at a conference. She was in full goth regalia with the most awesome black boots!

Anyway, I loved Night Embrace and now must go back and read all her others. Smiley

Very lucious heroes and very intricate plotting.

Start at the beginning with Fantasy Lover or Night Pleasures. She has a new one coming out in 2 weeks and I am dying for it. Vane has to be one of the hottest men in fiction, next to Ash of course.

I just read Seize the Night, the latest book in Kenyon's Dark Hunter series and really loved it. A couple of books in the series haven't been that good except for their heroes (Talon, Wulf), but have furthered the bigger story (Ash - who else) admirably...

Is Katra Ash's daughter or future lover? Only future books will tell... AARGH!!!

Night Play

I'm reading Night Play, my first Kenyon title, and am very surprised at how much I'm enjoying it.  It's sexy and light and just original enough that I'm not snoring my way through it (as has been my experience with far too many paranormal romances the past year).  Are the other books as good (or better) than this one?

I agree this is a great series, I just finished Seize the Night not long ago! I can't wait for the next one.  Anybody on this list read Christine Feehan? If you like Kenyon,  you're guaranteed to like Feehan! Same dark tortured heroes and sometimes heroines that we all know and love!

Kenyon's "Night Play"

I just realized I never followd up on this one:

This was the first "Dark Hunter" book I tried and the writing style immediately grabbed me. Enough so that I'm going to track down the others.

Vane and Bride, were both likable characters. I found Vane a very romantic, sexy and brooding guy (but not so much it became annoying) but the nasty ex-boyfriend, who conveniently kept popping up to make Bride feel like crap, got old very quickly. He's immature and obnoxious and has left Bride with a very bad self image. I get it. My only regret is that the author took far too long to get past it and move on with things!

Overall the book is fast paced and the main characters likable but somewhere past the midway point when Vane and Bride meet up with others in the Katagaria & Arcadia tribes my head began to spin. Utter confusion overcame me it was here that I wished I'd read the previous books. Lots of names and issues and past wars/hurts/deaths talked about and I had a very difficult time making sense of it all. When the story switched back to the romance between Vane & Bride the pages flew but when the pack politics kicked back in I was mighty confused. I'm going to collect these and read them in order because the story is quite interesting despite my confusion at past events!
